DAAD-supported scientific exchange in 2016: a positive outcome

During its annual conference the DAAD looks back on a positive year, of creating mobility opportunities for students and researchers alike and being a driving force in internationalisation efforts for Higher education.

The Annual Report 2016, that informs about the most figures, facts and projects shows:

During the year 2016, the DAAD enabled 131 229 students and scientists to complete a stay abroad. The number of non-German fellows that received funding amounted to 55 754, which represents an increase of 8% in comparison with the previous year (51 577). Support for German scholarship holders also increased slightly from 73 514 in 2015 to 75 475 in 2016. In the reporting year, the budget was around half a billion Euros.

The DAAD noticed a high demand for scholarships from foreign graduates. Furthermore, Master’s degree studies and structured PhD programmes were very popular for students and young researchers from developing and emerging economies.

The most popular regions of destination for German applicants remain Western Europe, Asia and North America.
