On 14 October 2011, ACA will host another instalment in its successful European Policy Seminar series. Our selected topic? The social dimension in European higher education.
The seminar agenda will include contributions by David Crosier (Eurydice), Lene Oftedal (DG Education and Culture), Dominic Orr (Hochschul-Informations-System GmbH, or HIS) and Dirk van Damme (OECD), among others, with the goal of the session to provide a dynamic and interactive forum for careful examination of key aspects of this fascinating and complex topic. For example, what exactly is meant by the term 'social dimension'? How do higher education institutions, national policymakers, and European-level actors make sense of this multi-faceted concept? And how do they endeavour to attend to it effectively in their longer-term planning and more immediate day-to-day activities?
Specifically, the programme will devote time to perspectives on trends in the social composition of the student population at the tertiary level across Europe, and efforts to enhance access to higher education. Evolving notions of student service provision, as well as gender and diversity considerations, will also form part of the agenda.
