As of 2 December, the Flanders Agency for Mobility and Cooperation in Higher Education (known by its acronym FLAMENCO) is ACA’s newest member. FLAMENCO was created in 2008 at the initiative of the Flemish Inter-university Council (VLIR) and the Council of Flemish University Colleges (VLHORA), with the specific objective of contributing to the internationalisation of higher education in Flanders. Among its principal goals, it aims to support and, as needed, coordinate initiatives undertaken by Flemish higher education institutions. FLAMENCO also exists to serve as a liaison between the Flemish higher education sector and the government in areas concerning internationalisation, as well as to represent Flanders in European and international discussions related to this topic. Its strategic priorities include working as both a representative organisation and a service organisation, promoting and supporting mobility and internationalisation in a variety of areas.

In welcoming FLAMENCO to the ACA family, we also bid a fond farewell to the Flemish Inter-university Council (VLIR) and the Council of Flemish University Colleges (VLHORA), whose interests within ACA are now represented by FLAMENCO.
