The Mediterranean Office for Youth: Supporting mobility in the Mediterranean area

The Mediterranean Office for Youth (MOY) is a new initiative involving 16 different countries bordering the Mediterranean. The MOY aims to help build a common future for the people of the Mediterranean, in particular the young, within an area dedicated to the circulation of ideas, knowledge, and skills.

During a three-year experimental period from 2011 to 2014, the MOY will pursue two initial missions: a pilot programme for the mobility of students and young professionals and the creation of a resource centre on Mediterranean mobility. Within the scope of the MOY pilot programme, master’s and doctoral-level programmes of excellence in academic disciplines identified as being relevant to the needs of the Mediterranean region will receive the MOY label, and mobility grants will be awarded to students from the participating countries. During the experimental period, the MOY aims to label at least one master’s or doctoral-level programme in each partner country and fund, per year, at least 500 semesters of student mobility at the master’s level and 200 semesters at the doctoral level.

Already, a call for proposals has recently been launched, focused on the labelling of programmes leading to joint, double or multiple degrees amongst higher education institutions in the MOY partner countries: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey. The deadline for these applications is 12 December 2010. ACA member CampusFrance, the national agency for the promotion of French higher education abroad, is assisting the French Ministry of Immigration, Integration, National Identity and Co-development, in setting up the Mediterranean Office for Youth and is responsible for coordinating the first call for proposals.
