This report compiled for the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) examines the current state of and future potential of higher education’s contributions to economic growth and societal development through knowledge exchange. Under the Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF) scheme, HEFCE is responsible for administering the GBD 600 million provided by the government through competitive grants to higher education institutions s. The authors evaluate the strategies submitted by individual institutions and show how higher education institutions are becoming increasingly direct partners in the innovation process at all stages. The report concludes that knowledge exchange is now fully embedded within the sector and has become a strategic, integrated activity in a great number of institutions. PACEC
