The European Parliament has launched a call for tender on a research study on internationalisation of higher education. The objective of the study is to scrutinise internationalisation strategies in higher education, with a particular focus on Europe.

The following research questions shall be addressed in the study:

• How can internationalisation be understood in the context of higher education, and what strategies are being pursued globally in this regard?
• In how far and by which means is the European Union and its member states responding to the challenges of internationalisation?
• What are the perspectives of future development, and which recommendations can be made both for policy makers and higher education institutions?
