EUA develops new international agenda

In light of its growing activities outside Europe, the European University Association's (EUA) Council adopted an international agenda at their last meeting on 30th June. The agenda responds to the internationalisation process affecting European universities and ensures that the perspective of European universities is taken into account in the development of the external dimension of the Bologna process. The external dimension will be one of the key issues to be discussed at the next education ministers meeting in 2007.

The activities for the period 2007-2009 proposed in the agenda are the following:

  • Further cooperation with North American partners, in particular the continuation of the Transatlantic Dialogue, a bi-annual meeting between EUA, the American Council on Education (ACE), the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada (AUCC) and other partners;
  • Facilitation of ‘Regional Dialogue Meetings’ with partners in other world regions (Africa, Asia, Latin America) as a service to EUA’s members with the aim of promoting interaction and dialogue;
  • Following up on the recently adopted EUA/CUIB Asturias Declaration with partners in Latin America

EUA’s international engagement does not intend to create a separate international department within EUA, but rather ensure that the international dimension is present in all the association’s activities, from policy level to services to members.
