Chinese universities compete for their best students

In China the annual national college entrance examination is drawing closer and universities are vying for the top students. Champions of provinces and winners of academic competitions can look forward to hefty scholarships offered by Chinese universities, often double what was offered last year, China View reports. Hong Kong universities and many foreign universities have joined the competition for Chinese top students. China View quotes Hong Chengwen, a management professor with Beijing Normal University, as saying that "Universities today offer international teachers, students and funding” and that “excellent universities attract more funds, and their scholarships better students,” often complete cover of fees and living costs and free summer courses abroad.

With a growing international student market involving a large number of Chinese students, universities the world over are facing increased competition from domestic institutions in China for the best students.
