Call for independent research grants and coordination actions

The European Research Council (ERC) has recently published a call for proposals for ERC Starting Grants which aims to support up-and-coming research leaders who are about to establish or consolidate a proper research team and to start conducting independent research in Europe.  ERC grants aim to support "frontier research"- including the social sciences and humanities - with particular emphasis on the frontiers of science, scholarship and engineering.

Budget: EUR 296 million

Deadline:

  • 29 October 2008  -  Physical Sciences and Engineering
  • 19 November 2008  -  Social Sciences and Humanities
  • 10 December 2008  -  Life Sciences

The ERC is also calling for proposals on Coordination and Support Actions for the purpose of monitoring and assessing its funding operations as well as its direct and indirect impact on research in Europe. Support will be provided to selected projects assessing the qualitative and quantitative impacts of the ERC, including:

• ERC science management and efficiency;
• Emerging research areas;
• Institutional and individual excellence;
• Changing structures and policies;
• Funding complementarities.

The Council will organise on 16 September 2008 an Information Day on the CSA call for proposals in Brussels. The registration deadline for this event is 4 September 2008.

Budget: EUR 2.5 million

Deadline:  12 November 2008
