As a result of the Bologna Process and ongoing globalisation, mobility for students of Higher Education in Europe is higher than ever, and still enjoys growth. One of the largest barriers for students considering to study in a foreign, European country is the considerable cost of studying and living abroad (and travelling). Therefore, many students are looking for scholarship opportunities to make their dream of international education come true. At the same time, numerous organisations are offering a wide pallet of scholarships on a European, National, Regional and Institutional level and varying in size, shape, applicability etc. Information on all these scholarships is scattered and unstructured and students have to spend an inordinate amount of time to find even a fraction of what’s available. Scholarship providing institutions are not having the impact they could due to a lack of qualified applicants.

The ScholarshipsPortal project aimed to fill this information gap, by creating a structured, centralised European database on funding opportunities and a state-of-the-art website ( that satisfies the information needs of both students and funding/providing institutes. On the portal students and scholars are able to quickly find scholarships applicable to them, based on criteria such as target country (university) for studies, student’s country of origin, level of education, academic discipline of interest, etc. For scholarship providing institutions, the portal is a very effective channel to reach out to their target groups on a European scale, and easy to administrate through a user-friendly online interface.

The portal currently serves hundreds of thousands of visitors that have the possibility to search and filter the thousands of scholarship possibilities available in Europe to the handful that are really relevant to them.

The project was led by StudyPortals, who have formerly successfully launched - a centralised, structured and sustainable information source where students can find and compare Master’s Programmes across Europe.

ACA was involved as a partner in the ScholarshipsPortal project.
