In May 2020 the Hungarian Government introduced a new scholarship programme that aims to support Hungarian diaspora communities all over the word. The scholarship programme is intended for those individuals of Hungarian origin living outside of Hungary who wish to strengthen their language knowledge and cultural identity. The programme is managed by Tempus Public Foundation.

The core mission of the Scholarship Programme for Hungarian Diaspora is:

• to strengthen the ties between Hungarian diaspora communities and Hungary,

• to give access for young people living in Hungarian diasporas to study programmes in Hungary by supporting their full time (bachelor, master, doctoral level) or part time studies,

• to support those who wish to rediscover and reconnect to their Hungarian heritage and want to become professionals on a field that can contribute to the prosperity of their diaspora community as well.

The target group of the programme are those individuals who belong to one of the Hungarian diaspora communities in all countries, except of countries of the European Union, the Republic of Serbia and the Zakarpatska Oblast part of Ukraine.

The scholarship programme starts in the academic year  2021/2022, the application period opens in fall 2020. Applicants can apply for up to two different study programmes. In case of successful application scholarship holders are released from the payment of tuition fee, are entitled to monthly stipend, accommodation and medical insurance contribution.

The programme promotion will start soon and we hope that interested students can take the opportunity of the programme and will start their higher education studies in Hungary.
