NAWA: STER Programme and open call for proposals for Chair

STER  Programme — Internationalisation of doctoral schools in Poland

Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) announced recruitment in the STER Programme. The programme is addressed to Polish institutions that run doctoral schools and have experience in admitting foreigners to studies or providing education to them and coordinate or participate in international exchange programmes for doctoral students.
The main objective of the Programme is to support on a systemic basis the internationalisation of doctoral schools for a period of 3 years.

Applicants may plan activities related to the acquisition of foreign doctoral students, payment of Agency scholarships for the best doctoral students implementing doctoral projects in international cooperation and aiming at obtaining a joint degree or double degree, support of foreign mobility for the best doctoral students from 1 to 10 months, receiving education at the doctoral school, developing activities related to internationalisation “at home”, activities related to the development of international cooperation of doctoral schools and activities related to content management of the Project.

After the amendment to the Act of July 20, 2018, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education provides education to a doctoral students in the doctoral schools. The doctoral students from around the world have the chance to start continue their education in Polish institutions and receive a scholarship.

Applications under the Programme will be accepted to the 31th of July, 2020.

NAWA Chair – open call for proposals

First Edition – for Humanities, Social and Theological Sciences

Call for proposals:             June 1, 2020 – July 31, 2020;

Announcement of results:         by November 30, 2020;

Contract signing:             December 2020;

Start of project implementation:     February 1, 2021 – October 31, 2021.


The aim of the programme is to support the highest quality scientific, research and didactic activities conducted by Polish universities by including world-class foreign professors. The NAWA Chair will contribute to strengthening the quality of Polish research in the humanities, social and theological sciences in response to current world challenges. The NAWA Chair allows employing professors with outstanding international achievements from various countries around the world for 36-48 months and creating a project group for them to develop ground-breaking scientific research, as well as prepare applications for prestigious grants. The programme is addressed to Polish universities, scientific institutes and research institutes.
Project co-financing from the funds of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange may be maximum up to PLN 3 000 000 (approx. EUR 660 000 ). In addition, the NAWA Chair includes a research component from the grant of the Polish National Science Center.
