On 14 October, a new government led by the country’s new Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Labour Party) started its service in Norway as a coalition between the Labour Party and the Centre Party.

Ola Borten Moe (Centre Party) has been appointed the new Minister of Research and Higher Education. In this capacity, he will be responsible for research policy, tertiary vocational education, educational loans and grants, adult education and skills, and for higher education. Ola Borten Moe previously served as the Minister of Petroleum and Energy in 2011-2013.

While the new government has still to come up with more specific directions for the higher education and research sector, they are expected to be in continuity with the past. Some of the known priority areas include the expansion of access to higher education for learners in country’s remote areas but also continued cooperation with Europe in education and research.
