Digital exams at HEIs: experience from AT, DE & CH

The Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD), a German digital higher education think tank, created by the Stifterverband, the CHE Center for University Development and the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) with funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, has published a whitepaper Digital exams at higher education institutions” (“Digitale Prüfungen in der Hochschule”).

Co-authored by 40 experts from Austria, Germany and Switzerland, this whitepaper summarises the key takeaways from the Community Working Group created by the HFD in spring 2021 in order to deal with "examination scenarios for digital higher education" in view of the lessons learnt during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As digital performance measurement has become more important for higher education institutions during the pandemic, the whitepaper provides a contribution to the development of a new examination culture for digital higher education. The document outlines the conceptual, didactic and organisational framework for various types of digital exams, presents the analysis of challenges and opportunities, and features practical examples.
