AVCC appoints interim Chief Executive Officer

Mr David Rome is the new Chief Executive Officer at the Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee (AVCC). He will occupy this position for the first half of 2007. As AVCC is currently in the process of creating a new company, Universities Australia, a new Board of Directors will take up office in June 2007.

Mr Rome has significant experience as a senior administrator in the university sector. In the early 1990s, he worked as Business Manager of Murdoch University and from 1996-2005 he was the Vice-Principal of Administration at the University of Wollongong. In addition to his service in the higher education sector, Mr Rome has worked for the Commonwealth Government – most recently as a Senior Executive in Administrative Services and earlier in Foreign Affairs, National Development and Energy, and the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman.

The ACA Secretariat congratulates Mr Rome and wishes him success in his new position.
